Abstract

This study investigates the effect of local anesthetics on the biofilm-forming activity of Staphylococcus aureus colonizing the surfaces of venous catheters. Biofilm formation is a critical factor in catheter-related infections, leading to increased risks of persistent infections and treatment resistance. The research, conducted as a multicenter clinical trial, evaluates how different anesthetic agents influence bacterial adhesion, biofilm development, and antimicrobial susceptibility. The findings suggest that specific local anesthetics may either inhibit or promote S. aureus biofilm formation, highlighting their potential role in infection control strategies for patients requiring venous catheters.
